Bronx Brewery Releasing New Beer: Rye Pale Ale

Later this month, the Bronx Brewery team is introducing a new beer, a Rye Pale Ale. “We wanted to stay within the pale ale category and introduce a beer that showcases another member of the grass family,” said Head Brewer Damian Brown, in an email message. “The unique spicy flavors of the ryle compliment and balance some of the woody, piny and spicy aspects of the top hop varieties in this beer – Crystal and Chinook. Our goal is to brew relatively big and assertive beers, but ones that are balanced and subtle enough to remain easy drinking.” This beer,…

The Bronx Brewery Making Waves in NYC

It’s been an exciting several weeks for the Bronx Brewery. This past Monday, Union Beer Distributors began distributing their beer, which has been self-distributed by General Manager Chris Gallant and Head Brewer Damian Brown since the pair started the brewery last March. Last week the brewery was given the Entrepreneur of the Year award by New York City. And in this month’s issue of Beverage World, the magazine honored the brewery’s inaugural release, its Bronx Pale Ale, with its BevStar Bronze Award in beer, noting “there’s still an opportunity to make one’s mark within a classic, tried-and-true beer style segment.”…

Brown and Gallant started the Bronx Brewery last March. Based in the Bronx, they contract brew their Pale Ale at Cottrell Brewing Company in Connecticut. They released a bourbon barrell-aged version of the beer this past April.

NYC Brewers Guild Founders Bash

Last night we attended the Founder’s Bash for the New York City Brewers Guild (NYCBG), held at the Brooklyn Brewery. This is an exciting time for craft beer in New York City – the Guild is the first of its kind in New York, because, as Steve Hindy (Brooklyn Brewery co-founder and president) pointed out, only now are there enough breweries in the city to have a guild. The Brooklyn Brewery, The Bronx Brewery, Chelsea Brewing Company, Eataly Birreria, Harlem Brewing Co., Kelso of Brooklyn, Heartland Brewery, Rockaway Brewing Company, Shmaltz Brewing Company, and 508 Gastrobrewery are the 11 members of…

Bronx Brewery Joins Botanical and Community Gardens For Urban Hop Project

In a news release, The Bronx Brewery today announced a partnership with The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG), a number of Bronx-based community gardens, and the Cornell Cooperative Extension on an Urban Hop Project, bringing hop growing to New York City. A group of Bronx community gardens, including  in NYBG’s Bronx Green-Up program, have planted 125 Cascade hop plants this spring to be grown and harvested for a special Urban Hop beer. The beer will be brewed and released by The Bronx Brewery later this year.  “I’m very excited to work with these community gardeners and develop a beer that…

10 Breweries in NYC Combine to Form Guild

Well this is an exciting announcement. New York City breweries Bronx Brewery, Brooklyn Brewery, Chelsea Brewing Co., Eataly Birreria, Harlem Brewing Co., Heartland Brewing Co., KelSo Beer Company, Shmaltz Brewing Co., Sixpoint Brewery and 508 GastroBrewery have combined to form the New York City Brewers Guild (NYCBG), with a mission to “advance the local brewing industry and thereby lessen human misery.” There will be a founders bash to celebrate this collaboration on May 22 at the Brooklyn Brewery. It will be an evening of rare and obscure beers from each of the 10 inaugural brewers. The Guild will also be taking…

Bronx Brewery Releases Bourbon Barrel Aged Pale Ale

Last night at Cafe D’Alsace the Bronx Brewery released a variant of their Pale Ale, aged in bourbon barrels. As usual, the pale ale was on tap, but they also had it on cask. The bourbon barrel aged pale ale is one of the best barrel aged beers we’ve had. Aged for three months in Woodford American oak barrels, it wasn’t too hot, with just enough vanilla and woody flavors that don’t overwhelm the delicacy of the pale ale. Less carbonated than the traditional pale ale, the beer has a great roundness to it. On cask, the pale ale was…

Bronx Brewery Rare Release

Since The Bronx Brewery released its Bronx Pale Ale in September it has become one of our go-to beers, a beautiful balance of bready malts and assertive American hops. Next week the brewery will release a new Bourbon Barrel Aged Pale Ale, a variant of its original Bronx Pale Ale aged in Woodford Bourbon Barrels, at Cafe D’Alsace. The addition of oak, vanilla and bourbon flavors from aging has made the beer even more harmonious (we tried it at aPORKalypse and it was probably our favorite of the event). The beer will be extremely limited, with only three hundred 22-ounce bottles available…

Bronx Pale Ale Jerky to be Introduced March 21

The Bronx Brewery has partnered with local beef jerky makers SlantShack Jerky to create a new product, marinated in their beer. The creation is the company’s first beer-based jerky, made using a blend of Brooklyn-based Tin Mustard, honey, and Bronx Pale Ale. It’s available with either 100 percent grass-fed or USDA Choice beef. “We’re excited to be working with Bronx Brewery, a young, startup company much like ours – we’re both committed to making high-quality, well-crafted products,” said David Koretz, CEO and Chief Operating Officer of SlantShack Jerky. “We love eating our jerky with a beer in hand, so we…

Go to Earl’s Beer and Cheese

Of course, you may already know about Earl’s because you were there tonight. Which, judging by the crowd, was all of you. So this is not so much a recommendation as a love letter. Because we cannot believe we had not been there before tonight (really, we’ve been meaning to go for months now, since we met one of the owners, Michael Cesari, at Cafe D’Alsace). Earl’s was just rated by Draft Magazine as one America’s top beer bars. Tonight on tap was Bronx Pale Ale, Left Hand Wake up the Dead, Smutty Note Robust Porter, Cape Ann’s Navigator. Some…
