Dogfish Head‘s summer wheat beer, Festina Pêche, shows the brewery’s range. At 4.5% ABV, Festina is one of the lowest alcohol level beers they make. While many have said that Dogfish is too hop crazed, the IBUs (International Bitterness Units) are only 8 out of 100. Festina is a “neo-berliner weisse” that is made with pureed peaches. The peaches are strong in the nose but subtle in the taste. As advertised, there is a noticeable but not overpowering sourness that is common for berliner weisse beers like Oarsman from Bell’s Brewery. We hope to see more of this style from breweries in the summer months.
