It may look a little run down and is often overcrowded but McSorley’s Ale House on East Seventh Street in the East Village has been serving delicious beer since the 1850s (in the U.S. this is basically forever). The walls are covered with newspaper clippings and bits of history. If you like history or old things, McSorley’s is definitely worth the trip. Your beer options are “light” and “dark” which are served in pairs of small mugs. We like the dark better but have fun mixing our own black and tans. We recommend visiting on a weekday afternoon when you can get a seat instead of weekend nights when you may have to struggle to get inside.
