Being people who have family and friends in upstate NY, we visit quite often and are acquainted with the great small brewers that are sprinkled up the Hudson Valley. One of the first that we (Giancarlo) had the opportunity to try was Albany Pump Station in downtown Albany, a place sometimes considered by locals as a bit touristy. But we maintain that the combination of solid beers and classic industrial decor make it a great stop.
We were recently in the area, tried a few of their beers and were impressed by the balance. Two of our favorites were the Oatmeal Stout and Kick-Ass Brown ale. The Oatmeal Stout was silky smooth with nice roasted notes and a slight sweetness. The Kick-Ass Brown has surprising hop character in the nose with a solid malt back bone.
