Pick of the Weekend: April Sours

One of the hottest beer trends right now is sour styles, both traditional and experimental. Many of the best, like Cantillon and Rodenbach, are from Belgium, but American brewers like Allagash and Jolly Pumpkin have been making a name for themselves. From Saturday to Tuesday Jimmy’s No. 43 will host their April Sours festival featuring beers from Germany, Belgium, Canada, the United States, and Italy. There will be afternoon sour beer seminars on Saturday and Sunday to help bring everyone up to speed on one of the most interesting categories of beer.

Monday night’s six-course All-Duck Dinner with sour beer pairings promises to be exciting (at most we usually only have one sour at a beer dinner). Among the prepartations for the ducks from the Hudson Valley Duck Farm will be smoked, confit, and terrine. Tickets are $45. For those interested in a more focused introduction with less financial commitment, “Tuesday sours” will be the theme for the Jimmy’s No 43 $10 Tuesday tasting.
