It’s difficult for us to write about the Stag’s Head. The first time we went the place was full so the staff sat us at its sister restaurant, Cornerstone Tavern, where the food is similar but the beer is not. The next time we went we were able to get a table at Stag’s Head, but found that hardly any of the beers listed were actually on tap. Our server went back and forth from our table to the bar a couple of times before we just asked him what they had.
A two-level restaurant/bar with a good outdoor space (billed as a “beer garden”), The Stag’s Head offers all-American craft beer, the majority of which is local, and a standard pub fare menu. The food isn’t the best, but the bar does hold special events and tastings.
The Stag’s Head is located at 252 E 51st St at 2nd Ave and is open from 11 a.m. Monday through Friday, noon Saturday and Sunday. Closest subway is the 6 train to 51st St.
