NYC Craft Beer Festival to Collect for Sandy Victims

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, The NYC Craft Beer Festival’s Winter Harvest Edition was delayed until Saturday, December 1. The festival’s team decided to add a relief supply drive to the event and are asking attendees to bring some much needed supplies to families and areas that were devastated by the storm. As a result of the postponement the festival has also been moved to the Basketball City venue at Pier 36 just off the FDR Drive.

Despite the postponement and venue change, the festival still has an impressive line up of beers and speakers. As to be expected the beer list includes a lot of Octoberfest and harvest beers but there are some real gems there as well. We are always happy to see stouts and porters like Founders Breakfast Stout, Keegan Joe Mama’s Milk, and Sixpoint Otis when things start to get chilly outside. The list includes some other interesting beers like Dogfish Head’s Ta Henket (based in Middle Eastern flavors and Egyptian yeast), an IPA and Black Ale from Dark Horse Brewing (a newcomer to the NYC market), and the fast disappearing Bronx Brewery Rye Pale Ale.

In addition to the general admission beers listed above, the festival’s Connoisseurs Lounge will be breaking out rarer beers like Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, The Bruery Autumn Maple, Blue Point Wet Hops, and Allagash Hugh Malone.

Three seminars will feature Chris Gallant of the Bronx Brewery speaking on starting a business, Aaron Foster of Murray’s Cheese talking about beer and cheese pairings, and Haley Jensen and Stephen Durley of Taproom 307 covering holiday beer and food pairings.
